Responsibilities will be assigned in the Road Maintenance Division as well as the Recycle Division of the Public Works Department. Applicants must possess a valid SC Commercial Driver’s License and be willing to submit to pre-employment screening that will consist of drug testing, criminal background check and a 3-10 year driving history report. Job duties will include driving a roll off truck to haul and pick up garbage at the County Recycling Centers, operating heavy equipment such as front end loader, back hoe, mowers and other road maintenance equipment to maintain County Roads. Will be required to work on call for nights, weekends and holidays in case of storm damage. Will also be required to work during inclement winter weather. Director of Public Works
Union County is accepting applications for Director of Public Works. Union County Public Works Director will report directly to the County Supervisor and will be responsible for the operations of the Solid Waste and Recycle Division, County Road Maintenance Division and the County Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance Division. Director will be responsible of filing all necessary DHEC, and any other State and Federal reports necessary for all three divisions; will also be responsible for applying for and administering any Federal or State Grants that may be available for the Department. The new Director will also be responsible for maintaining safety regulations, for all three departments to ensure OSHA compliance as well as compliance with
the County’s safety policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will possess three to five years of responsible experience in public works operations, and administrations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants with a two or four year engineering degree or a degree in a related field are preferred.
